BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE OF
NEW SOUTHERN POLICY PLUS

BACKGROUND

Given changes in the policy environment and the demand for
new forms of cooperation between NSP countries due to such
factors as achievements made and the spread of COVID-19,
there was a need to upgrade the policy.

    and the emergence of new forms of cooperation such as non-direct contact

    trade protectionism, goods · labor trade cessation

    widening of digital disparity
    due to 5G, AI, etc.
  • 04In particular increased demands regarding such matters as
    the response to COVID-19, the enhancement of living standards,
    and sustainable growth

SIGNIFICANCE

To enhance long-term and sustainable cooperational partnership to
implement New Southern Policy vision of
‘People-centered community of peace and prosperity’.

Upgrading the New Southern Policy(since 2017) to reflect changing
global environment amid COVID-19 and diverse cooperation demand

Enhancing strategic partnership with New Southern Region due to
elevated G2 relations, transformation of global value chain due to COVID-19

ENHANCING SOFT-POWER

Strengthening ‘People centered New Southern Policy’momentum
enhancing soft power(openness·transparency·democracy)such as Hallyu,
K-digital, K-healthcare

RECALIBRATING THE NSP

Establishing 7 strategic initiatives reflecting agreements of Summits
including diverse partnership projects based achievements
from the last 3 years
